Donald Duck (1963-1976) This is the era in which I collected most of my early comics. I could get a stack for a buck. This title was the first to go (sell out). This really surprised me and hit me with a real sense of loss. I am very fond of these comics because, I enjoyed reading these even before I could read. The reason the sell out surprised me was, that the comics were not in the best shape, nor were there many stories by Carl Bark's. From everything I was told these comics even after 30 years, were a dime a dozen. That was ten years ago, now they are not quite so easy to find.

history, dateline 1933. The Ledger Syndicate published a small broadside of their Sunday comics on 7" by 9" plates. Employees of Eastern Color Printing Company in New York, sales manager Harry I. Wildenberg & salesman Max C. Gaines, thought if they put two plates together they would fit on a tabloid page & when folded would produce a book 7 1/2" x 10". Funnies on Parade was the result of the first printing. Procter & Gamble bought 10,000 copies of Funnies on Parade, consisting of reprints from the Sunday pages, to be given away as premiums.
Wally: Eddie, we can't go without my brother. Eddie: Who needs him? He already paid his dough for the ticket... Oh, good morning, Mrs. Cleaver. Poor little fellow-- I wouldn't want him to miss this outing for anything. June: Really, Eddie? Eddie: Oh, yes -- I've always felt that older boys should devote more time to the little ones. |

Ward: I don't like the idea of Beaver handling a lot of money. A boy who's lost three pairs of socks on the way home from school hardly sounds like the banker of tomorrow.
He gains a foot a day, so the answer should be 20 days, right? No, on day 18 he starts at the 17 foot level & climbs out. People may say what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? I say it is my web site & I'll cry if I want to. Kit Walvoord |
